WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am an independent animator who creates 2D animated cartoons, commercials, web videos and industrial shorts to fit your needs.

As a one-stop shop I offer the entire creative package of writing, storyboarding, directing, design, animation and post-production. I work with my clients and a network of incredible freelance artists from across the spectrum of the animation industry to deliver the highest quality, most creative and entertaining result for a fair price.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

I am a graduate of the Character Animation program at the California Institute of the Arts. Since then I have traversed the animation industry for almost twenty years, working as an animator for various studios including Pixar, Klasky Csupo, and Rhythm & Hues studios. I have been a storyboard artist, writer and director for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Disney Television Animation. I have also created and produced numerous independent shorts and films.

How do you stand out in your field?

I think what sets me apart is my interest and expertise with all aspects of animation filmmaking. I write, direct, storyboard and animate… and have even done a little bit of voice acting. Also, I think that I bring a unique sense of humor and creative vision to the projects I work on.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

Right now I am working very hard to answer these questions… while also juggling an ongoing web comic, an independent animated short, several projects in development, running this new business and being a Dad.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I love cartoons! The sillier and the stranger the better! I truly believe animation is at its purest when used for comedy. The pilots I have made for Cartoon Network, “My Science Fiction Project” and “Sunshine Brownstone”, probably best reflect my wacky taste and sensibilities. Also, check out on my website!

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

I'm always wishing for more time to animate.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

I am always looking for new ways to find new clients. I am very excited about the potential of ilovecreatives!

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

Fill out online questionnaires for me.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

Trust your instincts. With some refinement they are usually right.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I would love to trade war stories with other animation artists who have started a business like mine, especially those who have found some success in this racket.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I am looking to create animated shorts and films that showcase my abilities and help my business to grow. But more importantly I hope to take on projects that challenge me as an artist to do things I may have never thought of. I am always looking to learn and grow.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

I want to work with amazing people with great ideas who can maybe teach me a thing or two.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

It varies. Depending on the complexity, schedule and budget of the project my fees can range between $2000 and $10000 per minute of fully produced animation.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

Email is great! And definitely include as much as you can possibly tell me about your project.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

Sitting at my desk a lot.
