Q What do you do?

I am a multidisciplinary graphic designer, with experience working on both print (think: event collateral, postcards, booklets) and digital (emails, ads, social) projects for a variety of clients.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I've always been creative, and honed my skills by always working on side projects and learning from other smart and talented people!

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I have a really holistic understanding to how design fits within the world of marketing, and my broad array of interests really influence the kind of touches that make my work special.

Q What are you working on right now?

Lots of digital work for some bigger clients (emails never end!), which includes a lot of strategy over how to streamline libraries and templates in Figma. Also going off the deep end designing all sorts of fun pieces for my upcoming wedding.

Q What’s your style?

I feel most strongly about work that is influenced by interiors, traditional art, and different, hand drawn elements. I like to compile where my head is at in the "miscellaneous" section of my portfolio - this acts as a great digital journal for elements that may be a work in progress or crop up in other things down the road!

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

Brand identity! Looking for the right clients to really work with here. I also love making event assets.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

Anything bookkeeping related I have to be in a really specific mindset for! I also know it is important to self promote but I can be horrible about sharing my work.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Social media pleaaaase!

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

I wish I told myself earlier in college that I could pursue something more creative and not be afraid of working outside of a certain path that I felt like I was supposed to follow. Its ok to lean into this side of you!

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I love listening to experts and really successful people about their own journey to that and how they work with the mental hoops life throws at you.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I love working on printed collateral or event assets - send invitation and menu design requests my way!

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I love working with teams (or individuals!) where it really feels like we are striving toward a specific goal. Getting ahead of creative marketing needs, reaching an event date, or creating special pieces that hold a sentimental value to a client is so special. I recently completely hand-lettered a baby announcement for an old coworker and the amount of love that went into that was really special.

Q What is your rate?

Pricing is always based on client and project. I prefer to get to know someone, their business, and needs, and moving forward from there, so let's start a conversation!

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

I am super responsive to emails! emilyvalentinedesign@gmail.com , or fill out the form on my website, www.emily-valentine.com. Please introduce yourself, and share your needs + a budget you may have in mind!

Q Who is a creative you admire?

My dear friend Louisa! Her website is louisadunn.com - she is an artist and textile designer.

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

Dog walks and expensive coffee table books.
