WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am first and foremost a new mother but have been a writer my whole life. I started my website to speak my truth. I’ve considered myself a writer of sorts since I was a child, collecting journals from the age of 6, and caring for them as prized possessions.

Something about empty pages bound together made me feel empowered and smart; because I knew I had the ability to fill them with material worth reading.

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

From writing short stories as a child to writing for my college newspaper at UC Irvine and grad school newspaper at Cal State Los Angeles. I've worked in various production companies (Sekretagent Productions and Entertainment Tonight) transcribing interviews and composing interview questions for red carpets and junket interviews. It didn't allow me to stretch my legs as I'd like to as a creative and truly kept me in a bubble. So, I created EvanNoel.com. A personal blog space to say what I wanted, how I wanted.

HOW DO YOU STAND OUT IN YOUR FIELD?

I am honest. I say what people are thinking and don't always feel comfortable saying. I reveal my insecurities and vulnerabilities; how I am trying to flourish and work through them to find my most authentic self. I am not your "typical Mom" or at least how I think people view the "typical Mom". Being a mother and a wife is not enough to fulfill my life and it took a long time for me to not feel guilty about that statement - but as I previously stated, I am honest and will remain that way. Actively pursuing and working on my craft gives me true joy.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

I spend all of my time (aside from raising my daughter) on my blog site, https://www.evannoel.com/ writing new content and finding new ways to get my writing and my voice out into the world.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I want to be the woman's woman. I speak more directly to women than men but when males read and receive my content, it's incredibly gratifying. Catering to women; I want to encourage women from all walks of life to stop trying to live up to ridiculous expectations that our new media world places on us.

WE ALL HAVE MULTIPLE SKILLS OR WORK IN VARIOUS INDUSTRIES, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD FOCUS ON MORE?

I want to embrace my writing skills but also want to hone in on them in a more critical manner. Learning never stops and I have to keep teaching myself more creative and constructive ways to write and connect with readers.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

I often fear my potential, to be as transparent as possible. I am confident enough of a writer to know I have a unique and honest voice; I believe that. I want to touch people's souls and make them feel that despite your inner doubts, success follows consistency.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

My house work (though I actually enjoy it) Cooking, cleaning, etc. But most of all I would appreciate someone aiding me in my professional image - helping me find my aesthetic. I am capable of doing that for myself, but help from an expert is a wonderful thing and not to be taken for granted.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

SO many eras to revisit..hmm. I would likely go back to my Grad School self and encourage myself to spend more time dedicated to self-care and dream writing. I feel I've had great inspiration from dreams but often wake up to scroll on Instagram rather than writing down my morning thoughts. I am still a product of my generation, I suppose.

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

How to stay in my own lane and focus on competing with myself rather than my peers. A lifelong journey I've been on.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

I would love the opportunity to remotely freelance write; to write opinion pieces for an independent and unique publication. I would enjoy writing in conjunction with another form of creative expression (another creative - photographer, painter, singer, actor/actress)

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

A weekly, bi-monthly or monthly opinion column for a publication, coupled with beautiful imagery. Having many friends based in photography I would adore writing a piece about a historical landmark, a prominent social or political figure that is strikingly photographed.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

Given the power to decide, I would like to be paid by the piece rather than paid by the word, but I wouldn't turn down an opportunity of any sort. Paid or unpaid. Opportunity and exposure are learning experiences and necessary for every creative. Most commonly, I've seen $50-200 per piece.

WHO IS A CREATIVE THAT HAS HELPED YOU ELEVATE YOUR WORK?

There are so many! And I am proud to call them friends.

My best friend is an actress and writes her own screenplays. She's an amazing human.

The gifted and kind photographer/singer, Kanya Iwana who shot my pregnancy photos introduced me to ilovecreatives. She simply does it all.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

I value people who get to the point and are as direct as can be. Let me know a time, place, budget and concept and I am in there.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

I read!! Fiction, nonfiction, poety, etc.
