Q What do you do?

I am a graphic designer who specializes in illustration.

I love to work with my hands so I will often combine my fine art skills with digital.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

My passion for creativity began as I explored art therapy as an adolescent. I graduated high school a year ahead of my class in Oregon and then moved across the country to Florida for college. While in Florida I attended Flagler College where I received a bachelor of arts degree in graphic design.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I have a combination of skills that I use to create unique work. My background in both fine art and digital design blend together to create one of a kind pieces. An example of this would be hand painting assets that I scan digitally to design with.

Q What are you working on right now?

I have been creating a lot of illustrations recently. The illustrations I have done recently have been for everything from social media posts to coloring books.

Q What’s your style?

I love the dichotomy of femininity and macabre. My fine art work tends to dive into this a bit more. My Dior x Precious Moments package design is the best representation of my favorite style, muted femininity.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I love anything that allows me to create with my hands (painting, sculpture, illustration).

Q What is frustrating you right now?

It feels challenging to transition from school out into the professional world. I miss the community aspect of art school. I am also finding it difficult to pick a creative path as I love many forms of art.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

I would have them fold my laundry. There is nothing more daunting than a stack of laundry after a long day.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

I wish I could go back to being a little girl living on a small farm in Oregon. I would tell her to appreciate all the little moments, the good and the bad. I would tell her to give her family more hugs. Growing up as a small town farm girl I wanted nothing more than to move away to one of my two favorite places, Florida and New York City. I lived in Florida while enrolled in college and currently live in New York City. As much as I love the city there are still often times I miss the simplicity of brushing horses and gardening.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

I would love to know when or if the imposter syndrome stops. I am convinced that even the great artists never know if their work is good enough.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I am looking for any opportunities in graphic design, illustration, and photo editing.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

Any project looking to do something original, I love working on something that feels fresh and values creativity.

Q What is your rate?

As someone new to the professional world I am looking for experience so that I can grow as a designer. I am looking for anything that has a base of at least $19/hour.

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Send me an email! As professional or casual as you like, we are all just silly people pretending to be professional adults! josephineriggertdesign@gmail.com

Q Who is a creative you admire?

I am OBSESSED with Moni Haworth @monibelle. She has an incredible eye and is constantly producing the most impressive, creative work. I have been following her for a long time and was excited to see that she recently did a campaign with Poster Girl that got quite a bit of recognition, as she deserves!

Q Oh! and… how do you stay creative?

By living life and being present in the moment. I am inspired most by the city, by people, parties, musicians in the park, museums, the trials and tribulations of life, all of it is art.
