Q What do you do?

As a designer my work includes collage, original type, and illustration that I incorporate into my designs with the adobe suite.

As a designer, I want to be a part of creating brands and identities that use their messaging in a culturally impactful way. The work in my portfolio that I am most passionate about comes from female perspectives.

Q What steps did you take to get to where you are now?

I attended Pacific Northwest College of Art, where I received my bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. After graduating I freelanced for various design agencies. I moved to NY where I worked full time for Fur You and then full time for Cosmopolitan Magazine.

Q How do you stand out in your field?

I stand out in my field by bringing in my hands-on skills. Whether I am using my sculpture background to create fun packaging or finding ways to bring illustrative elements into a campaign. Design allows me to be my most creative self, beyond just digital.

Q What are you working on right now?

Right now, I am working on album art and merch for a new up and coming band. Outside of my full time job, I love to help my fellow creative friends by making designs to promote their own creative practices. I find this to be very freeing, allowing me to try out new design styles before applying them to my day job.

Q What’s your style?

Cosmopolitan’s 2024 Horoscopes is a rebrand project that most represents my taste and skills. Every year Cosmo publishes their yearly Horoscopes. In the past years they leaned more on bright pink visuals, creating a younger visual style geared towards a femme audience. I wanted to make it more moody and have an early 2000’s science feel, to reach a wider audience. This then allowed me to create an entire visual language for Cosmo’s Astrology section which for the last 2 years I have developed and rebranded.

Q Out of all your slashies, which one do you wish you could do more often?

I have been enjoying drawing again, sometimes I get to incorporate illustrations into my design jobs. But I have found just free drawing has been very creatively fulfilling and I would love to have more time to explore drawing.

Q What is frustrating you right now?

I wish I had access to more femme studios. I want to uplift the edgier side femme voices and perspectives by exploring in nonconventional design. To work for a place that allows me to play more in the unexpected.

Q If you could hire someone for $20/hour, what would you have them do to make your day easier?

Cook me yummy food.

Q What do you wish you could have told yourself, when, and why?

Play more in college. I wish I spent more time enjoying the access to different mediums and tools. I was so focused on getting a good grade on projects that I missed the opportunity to fully play.

Q If you could talk to an expert to gain more insight on something, what would it be about?

Blender, please someone teach me blender. I wish I had the time to sit down with an expert for a month to fully learn the tools of blender.

Q What kind of opportunities/projects are you looking for?

I would love to work on album art, campaigns, passion projects, anything that I can play and have fun with. The weirder the better, I just want to make cool/weird art.

Q Describe your ideal job/client/collaboration.

I got to collaborate with ilovecreatives for Cosmopolitans first digital issue Sex After 60. This opportunity helped me to explore and try new ideas. This excites me to continue to collaborate with other designers and grow. This was such a wonderful experience to see what beautiful work can be accomplished with a group of passionate artists.

Q What is your rate?

$50-65 an hour $1000 for logo/logo guidelines
$8000 for brand identity (including logo)
$200-1000 for album art, poster design, tshirt design

Q How should someone approach you about working together?

Send me a friendly email. Tell me your fun/weird ideas =) margierischiotto@gmail.com
