WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a Creative Director, Project Manager and Brand Designer.

As a multidisciplinary creative, I create and design brands for Passion-Filled Founders!

WHAT STEPS DID YOU TAKE TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE NOW?

I grew up in this digital age and fell in love. From designing User-Lookup pages on Neopets, to creating websites on FreeWebs.com for my elementary school friends, I always knew that I LOVED to create and communicate in this digital space.

When I was in University, I decided to start freelancing my skills. This ranged from Graphic Design, Social Media Management and Consulting. Since then, I've decided to create BLANK ROOM and extend my creative endeavors in a more amplified way. I knew that I wanted to start a branding studio that fit within this digital nomad lifestyle one day.

Thus, the birth of BLANK ROOM, a branding studio intended to uplift the curious entrepreneurs and experienced folks with thoughtful branding and design. My studio is a remote and collaborative studio, lead by me, for ambitious entrepreneurs. We have Founder Resources and Creative Service support to help others live their passion to the fullest.

How do you stand out in your field?

1- My emotional capability to connect with others in an in-depth manner, definitely makes me stand out. I'm able to completely understand the ins and outs of emotions and bring that to branding. My ability to connect emotions and branding together has been a stellar key to standing out in my field. I absolutely love connecting with people's passions and translating this to the market and a brand!

2- Being a multidisciplinary creative, I also understand how to create in different ways. This means that I am able to understand the entirety of visual communication and allow my multi-skills to help others stand out with their brands. I know how to communicate creativity into beautiful content, branding and design. Because my passion is heavily invested in creating beautiful work for founders and my palette is multi-skilled, this allows me to create with no limits.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON RIGHT NOW?

I'm currently working with a fashion brand, to help refreshen the aesthetics and strategy of her content. Though my wheelhouse is mostly in creating brands rather than content creating, I still enjoy helping others lock down the direction.

WHAT'S YOUR STYLE/PERSPECTIVE/TASTE? DO YOU HAVE A PROJECT THAT REPRESENTS THIS?

I've realized that despite the many styles that I create for my clients, they are all completely rooted in simplicity and minimalism. I truly believe that less is more, especially in design, and that breaking down design to communicate in a straightforward, simple and creative manner, is KEY. blankroomdesign.com/dibracon and blankroomdesign.com/terradentalhygiene are great examples of this. Though both completely different in style, audience, and strategy, they are still both rooted in simplicity. This helps communicate the brand in a more concise way, rather than cluttered noise.

WE ARE ALL SLASHIES WITH MULTIPLE SKILLS, WHICH ONE DO YOU WISH YOU COULD DO MORE OFTEN?

Creative Director, I plan to continually finesse this role! This is a role that takes years of practice to excel in, and I want to focus on it more. Though I love to design, I also love the beautiful outcomes that come from collaborative working. I like connecting with Copywriters, Strategists and other Designers, to create projects that are beautifully thought out.

WHAT IS FRUSTRATING YOU RIGHT NOW?

At this moment, I've been so client project focused, that I've been disregarding the growth and outreach of my agency. This has been at the bottom of the to-do list, but I know that I need to put time into spreading exposure and creating conversations-- ESPECIALLY in this digital space. When you create conversations in a digital space, the copy gets published. This means people will know you more, the SEO will rise, and the growth of your agency will go up as well! This is something that I also think lands on the bottom of many other's to-do list as well.

IF YOU COULD HIRE SOMEONE FOR $20/HR, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE THEM DO TO MAKE YOUR DAY EASIER?

I would hire a Strategist / Copywriter! Though I enjoy doing the research and statistics when I have to, that often falls behind my to-do list, and it would be great to have somebody else focus on that. I would also hire a Production Artist to make my day easier, as I've done before, to take the design workload off of me so that I can focus on the ideation.

LET'S BRING OUT THE TIME MACHINE. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE TOLD YOURSELF, WHEN, AND WHY?

I don't enjoy living in the past, but if I could tell my past self one thing, I would remind her that all the time put into growing my passion, will be so worth it!

IF YOU COULD TALK TO AN EXPERT TO GAIN MORE INSIGHT ON SOMETHING, WHAT WOULD IT BE ABOUT?

I would LOVE to talk to more senior creative directors, and to gain more insight, especially ones who are living in this entrepreneurial space. I think that in every field, and skill, there will always be new things to learn every day. However, with the entrepreneurial space in particular, I would love to hear their input and tips on thriving.

WHAT KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES/PROJECTS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

1. More Branding Projects that range from Re-Branding to Starting from Scratch! I love helping founders create a brand that they are passionate about.

2. More collaborative projects! I LOVE working with other entrepreneurs who believe in Collaboration and Community over Competition. I recently created a book project called BRANDING QUICKIES, in BLANK ROOM's Founder Resources page. The book is written by 20 badass women who give their tips and insights in the branding world. I would love to create more projects with other women, and to uplift each other.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL JOB/CLIENT/COLLABORATION.

My ideal future collaboration, I'm hoping would be similar to the BRANDING QUICKIES book project. This project was created and led by me. It was so much fun to include so many women in this project, and have it be entirely women involved. These are the type of feel-good projects that I want to have more of.

WHAT IS YOUR HOURLY RATE, RETAINER, OR SALARY RANGE?

I always price my projects on a flat and fixed rate. Any additional scopes outside, will be charged depending on the item! For me, I think that having a packaged pricing, allows for a better streamline when you communicate your offerings to others in a service deck. It is simple, straight-forwarded, and priced fairly.

HOW SHOULD SOMEONE APPROACH YOU ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER?

I'm a total open book and am super welcoming to ANYBODY who reaches out to me. Say hello, get advice and work with me.

If you want to work with me, send me a condensed overview of your life/passion, your budget, timeline/deadlines, and keep me posted on where you are in the development spectrum stages. Do you already have a brand and have assets already? Do you only need 3-Months of Social Content? The more specific, the better ;)

Find me on Instagram (link to instagram.com/blankroomdesign) and feel free to e-mail peggy@blankroomdesign.com for any collaborations as well.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

By being ACTIVE in the Creative Community.
